She had a passion for the written word and the English language, as she won numerous awards for her poems and short stories during her time as a junior high, high school, and college student. She was valedictorian of her high school class before going on to be president of the English Department Honor Society during her sophomore year at Eastfield College in Dallas. After transferring to UT Arlington, she was a journalist for the Shorthorn and holds the distinction of being the first student to have both a poem and a short story published in the same issue of the newspaper. With aspirations of becoming a teacher, she graduated with a Bachelors in Secondary Education and English; not only was she a mentor and tutor to students locally but also worldwide through online classes to help with language mastery.
Her other passion was for her friends of the four-legged variety: dogs. Very few things gave her more pleasure in life than to watch dogs play, see them stick their heads out of passing cars while enjoying the wind and surrounding smells, or get a chance to scratch behind an ear, rub a belly, and receive an affectionate lick or two. She was particularly partial to schnauzers, Yorkshire terriers, and Welsh corgis.
She is survived by her father and mother Adrian & Jenny Brooks, husband Andy Thiessen, brother Aaron Brooks and his wife Pam, her sisters Shauna Evans with her husband Dan, and Tausha Krebsbach, nieces and nephews Johnna Rodriguez with husband Miguel, Jordan Turner, Jacob Turner with his wife Jade, Alex, Abby, and Ava Brooks, and Hannah, Brennan, Colton, and Zeke Krebsbach. Also the "puppers", her schnauzer Arkham and yorkie Alfred!
Her Celebration of Life will be held at Fellowship of the Parks' Bedford campus, 2045 Bedford Rd, Bedford, TX 76021, at 6 PM on Friday May 16th.
