The Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 16 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas.
Aurora Rodriguez, 83, passed away on July 10, 2024. She was born on September 28, 1940, in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Elodia and Martin Cantu. Aurora was raised in Carrizo Springs and graduated from Carrizo Springs High School in 1959.
In 1957, Aurora met Armando H. Rodriguez at a youth church event in Uvalde, Texas. After a long courtship that included many telegraphs and love letters, they were married on March 17, 1961, in Uvalde. After relocating to Dallas, they found their permanent spot in Arlington where they have lived since 1963.
Aurora worked as a teacher for Arlington ISD for 15 years, Country Day School of Arlington for 12 years and The Montessori Academy for 11 years. After retiring from teaching full-time, she started teaching Spanish to preschool children at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Aurora created the perfect unique Spanish songs to teach children the days of the week, numbers and the parts of the body.
In 1996, Aurora started working at the front desk at Miss Persis Studio of Dance. For 23 years, “Ms. Aurora” greeted thousands of dance students and parents when they walked in the door. She would say to each student “Name, please?” and children from 3 to 18 years old would give their name to her before entering class.
Aurora was the chair of the “Glue, Staple and Stitch” Committee so every dance recital year her house was covered in costumes, sequins and smiles. She loved her relationships with all the MPS dance families and especially her very close relationship with Persis Forster.
Aurora loved spending time with family and friends. She was a loved member of the infamous Lamar High School “Lunch Bunch” - a group of loving friends who met monthly for friendship and fun since 1990.
Aurora and Armando loved traveling the world. Many memories were made in countries including Mexico, Spain, France, Belgium, Italy, Greece, Egypt and China. She loved cruises around the Hawaiian Islands, the Panama Canal and the Alaskan waters. Occasionally, she would invite her children and grandchildren to go too.
Aurora was preceded in death by her parents Elodia & Martin Cantu, and her brother David.
Aurora is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Armando, her sister Gloria Sanchez (Abelardo) and her brother Antonio Cantu (Margarita). She is also survived by her children, Michelle Shelton, Sonia Coombes (John), Robert Rodriguez (Jenny) and Alicia Hendricks (Eric).
“Honey” will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Zachary, Ariel, Jessica, Jordan, Ally, Tori, Jessy, Megan, Sarah, George, Ellie Dawn and her two great-grandchildren Karter and Astraea.
The Committal Service will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 1:30 PM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas.
