Barbara Jean Nash Kight left us peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on January 16, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Claude Howell and Daisy Powell Nash. They brought her home to Milby Road in Pantego, Texas, where she began a life filled with laughter, strength, and compassion. She attended Pantego School, where, in first grade, she was elected Queen—a title she would live up to in both spirit and grace for the rest of her life.
Barbara met the love of her life, Colby Lee Kight, while attending Arlington High School. He would arrive in his beloved 1955 Buick, the “Blue Goose,” singing Hank Thompson songs to her. They married in 1956 and began their life together in East Arlington, where they purchased their only home on Cardinal Street.
At 1417 Cardinal Street, Barbara raised their three children—Kay Lynn, Cary Lee, and Marcus Carl—and became known as the Queen of Cardinal Street. Her home was more than just a house; it was a haven for neighborhood children, a place where everyone felt safe, welcome, and loved. She could outrun the boys and show the girls how to feel beautiful, all while keeping a watchful, nurturing eye on the whole block.
As her children grew, Barbara poured her energy into serving her community. Her dedication included work with: Citizens on Patrol, Arlington Historical Society, Johnson Creek Project
She was also proudly named the first Arlington High School Outstanding Alumni.
Barbara’s love for Colby knew no bounds. He was an avid deer hunter, and she became the Queen of the Deer Camp, cooking for the crew on mountaintops and helping build their dream retreat on land they worked hard to acquire.
Colby preceded her in death, but Barbara carried on with his memory in her heart, surrounded by the family they built together.
She is survived by her children: Kay Lynn Simmons, Cary Lee Kight and wife Pam, Marc Kight and wife Amanda
Her beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth Mae Simmons, David Thane Coon, Mason Nash Simmons, Colby Taylor Kight, Cary Lee Kight II
Great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy: Ayden Jakob Simmons, Kaity Renee Simmons, Alexander Dean Simmons, Dylan Thane Coon, Bentley Taylor Davis-Coon, Weston Ross Davis-Coon, Emmalee Neil Davis-Coon, Brooklyn Faye Fletcher, Miles Daniel Storms, Katch Robert Smolek, Candice
