Betty Sue Boddie Orton, 62, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 20, 2013. She died due to complications from a high grade mutant lymphoma diagnosed only 6 weeks prior. No flowers please but donations and support if desired should be made to her favorite church, Berean Bible Church, 945 Reon Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23464.
She was born Betty Sue Boddie in Shreveport, La. on April 9, 1951 to Bob and Elizabeth Boddie. She was an “Air Force brat” who lived her early years in Japan, Alaska and various U.S. bases. She attended high school at Theodore Roosevelt in San Antonio, Texas where she was a cheerleader and was honored as “Most Beautiful” her senior year in 1969. In 1970 she was attending Texas Tech and met Ken Orton while he was in pilot training at Reese AFB. After a brief but very romantic period they were married in San Antonio on May 30, 1970.
Their marriage was one of the most romantic and devoted ever. During the Air Force years they lived in Phoenix, Az. and Montgomery, Ala. where she was so excited to be living where her grandmother was located. After that Ken took a job with Pfizer Labs, they moved to Arlington, Texas where they lived for 30 years and built her ”dream house” where they would raise four children before moving to Fort Worth in 2007.
In 1975 she was attending a women’s Bible study at her church and was chosen by Christ to be saved and a follower of His and professed her eternal faith in Him. In the following years Betty became a fervent witness for Jesus and found opportunities to share the wonder of His love wherever she went and with whomever she met. She especially loved the Gospel of John and used that book often to share her faith and security in her Savior. She was blessed with both physical and spiritual beauty and prayed continually for those she had met and witnessed to around the world. Her greatest love on earth was her family. She truly exhibited the spirit and unconditional love of Jesus Christ and lived her life without judgment or prejudice against anyone.
The loss of her physical presence is grievously mourned by her husband of 43 years and four children, Chip Orton and his wife Rebecca in Keller, Lance Orton and his wife Karre in Houston, Christian and his wife Erin in Richardson and Tiffany Guy and her husband Justin in Fort Worth and also a sister Jane Brymer in Connecticut and a brother Allen in Rockport and her eight grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 6PM at the Bob Duncan Recreation Center, 2800 S Center St, Arlington, TX 76014.
