Charles Ervin LeBus passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on November 13, 1938, to Erwin and Maudie LeBus, Charles grew up in Vernon, Texas, where he graduated from Vernon High School in 1957. He attended Texas Tech University, earning a degree in accounting and becoming a lifelong, loyal supporter of the Red Raiders and his fraternity Phi Kappa Psi.
Charles married Saundra Clark in 1961, and together they had two children before eventually parting ways. In 1974, he moved to Arlington, Texas, where he later married Bettye Peacock, his beloved wife of more than forty years, who preceded him in death in 2020. With Bettye, Charles became an active and devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where they worshiped and attended Sunday school faithfully for many years.
In 2024, Charles moved to assisted living in Austin, where he spent his final years surrounded by family, and a caring and compassionate staff, whom he dearly appreciated.
Charles is survived by his children Lori and Steve Durham, Charles L. “Ladd” LeBus and Brad Page, Shelley Peacock, Susan Gray, and David and Judy Peacock; his grandchildren Chelsea Peacock, Jordan and Chris Marshall, and Colleen and Justin Wagner; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by extended family and a lifetime of friends who loved him.
Charles was known for his bright smile, his good sense of humor, and an easy, infectious laugh that made others feel at home. He loved his church and his Sunday school community, finding fellowship, connection, and joy in his faith. When declining health limited his mobility, he faithfully attended Sunday school and church services virtually from his residence, staying connected to the community that meant so much to him.
He also loved television game shows, Bingo, and musical entertainment—simple pleasures that brought him joy throughout his life. A dependable presence, Charles worked hard, raised a family, and loved them deeply. Even as he faced a decade of illness and health challenges, he remained perseverant, grateful, and full of quiet strength.
He followed DFW sports with devotion, but none more than his beloved Texas Rangers. Their 2023 World Series triumph was a profound joy for him—an unforgettable moment he had long dreamed of but never expected to witness.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of optimism and generosity. His family will miss him dearly.
Preceded in death by: his wife, Bettye LeBus (1935–2020).
