Cheryl was born on January 26, 1950 in Macon, Mississippi and spent her formative years in her hometown of Louisville, Mississippi. Later in 1976 after living in Memphis, Tennessee for several years, Cheryl relocated to Arlington where she started working for the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau. That same year she enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington in the College of Business and proudly graduated in 1981.
Chery was an accomplished and dedicated business woman for over 50 years. She was a master event planner, hospitality manager, and contract negotiator. She worked as a Senior Sales Manager for the Hyatt Hotels and Resorts and the Adams Mark/Sheraton Hotel. She also served as the National Sales Manager for the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau. And most recently before her retirement she served as the Marketing Director for the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas for 11 years.
Cheryl's life wasn't all work though as she loved her family and friends dearly. She was the mother of two sons, Rome and Hudson Barnes. Then in 1981 she married Ross Calhoun and they blended their children into one amazing family. Just like her husband, Cheryl’s greatest achievement was being a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and trusted friend. Her 10 grandchildren lovingly called her “Dee Dee”. One of her passions was showering all the grandchildren with unique and wonderful gifts. For many years, she bought all of them beautiful matching outfits at Christmas. She then had portraits made so the family could cherish the memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40 years, Ross Calhoun, mother Betty Weaver Parks, and father Prentiss Parks. Cheryl is survived by son Rome Bradley (and Valerie) Barnes, son Brian Hudson (and Ana Maria) Barnes, stepson Blake (and Christine) Calhoun, stepdaughter Kimberly (and Jared) Richardson, and brother-in-law Keith Linde. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ian Hudson Barnes, Kelsey Barnes, Bryana Hailey Barnes, McKenzie Lee Richardson, McKayla Faith Richardson, McKell Hope Richardson, McKenna Grace Richardson, Chloe Brinley Calhoun, Emma Blake Calhoun, and Dawson Andrew Love.
