Family & friends are invited to attend a celebration of life vigil for Christine Nichols, on Thursday, September 29th at 2:00 pm. She passed away at the age of 87 from complications of Alzheimer’s. The service will take place in the Chapel at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012. Following the service will be a reception held at Los Vaqueros, 3201 S University Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76109.
On April 24, 1934 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Christine Nichols was brought into this world under the loving care of the hardworking Beuford and Corine Yarbro. The loving couple lived by example, instilling the importance of dedication and unconditional love in their only child.
After completing grade school in Loving, she attended Carlsbad High School where she met her high school sweetheart and eventual husband, Stanley Nichols. The bubbly personality that she always carried led to her being voted Best Dressed, Cutest Personality, and Cutest Giggle. After graduating, she ventured out of state and landed in the Mile High city of Denver, where she would study interior design at The University of Colorado.
When Stanley unexpectedly passed away in 1970, Christine exemplified the perfectly dedicated mother by raising their four children, Letitia, Lance, Ladd and Laton all on her own. The family of six had recently moved to Texas, without any close family or friends, but her resilience got them through the challenging era with poise and grace. Christine treasured her children and embraced every single moment as their mother.
Christine would go on to cherish her role as Nana and Great Nana to her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The permanently welcoming demeanor she carried was appreciated by anyone that was lucky enough to cross paths with her. Capable of enjoying a “visit” while “charming the socks off” of just about anyone with her southern colloquialisms, the honorary Texan from New Mexico made an art out of hospitality.
Christine’s mastery of herding her familial flock was and will forever be a strong influence on her family. Her focus on hard work, kindness and the forever present advice of “straighten up and fly right” are missions her family will forever live by.
She is the loving & devoted mother of Letitia Wills, Lance Nichols, Ladd Nichols and Laton Schroeder, Nana to Maddie Wills, Nicholas Wills, Stanley Wills, Michael Nichols, Michelle Nichols, and Grant Schroeder and Great Nana to Katherine Nichols and Maxim Nichols. Her son-in-law Chris Wills and daughter-in-law Rebecca Nichols will always be grateful for how “mom” took them in as her own.
