Corinne Gloria Vela Pennock, peacefully left this life on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the age of 93. She is survived by her brother, Joe “Pepe” Vela, 96, from Alice, TX and his wife Emma, one daughter, Diana and her husband Henry James Ham from Grand Prairie, TX and one son, Steve Pennock and his wife Charlotte from Alvarado, TX. She was also blessed with granddaughters, Sara Daniel Eddy, Erin Ham, and Courtney Ham; grandsons, Trevor Daniel, Reagan Pennock and Riley Pennock; great grandchildren, Vonn, Hendrix and Sylas; several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 62 years, Donald E. Pennock and her parents, John & Zoila Vela from Alice, TX.
Corinne was born in Alice, TX on November 7, 1924, and after graduating from high school she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, getting her BBA. She taught high school business for two years in Ben Bolt, TX then moved to San Antonio where she would meet her future husband who was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. After marriage, on July 20, 1952, they moved to Austin, where they both continued their education at the University of Texas. In 1956 they moved to Odessa, TX where she was a 4th grade teacher. In 1968, they moved to Edinburg, TX where she was a high school Vocational Office Education teacher. In 1977, they moved to Grand Prairie, TX where they would spend the next 40 plus years. She taught at Grand Prairie High School until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Irving and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Corinne was a very talented and accomplished cross-stitcher and has several amazing pieces that will be cherished forever. She loved to read novels and People magazine, square dance and watch “As the World Turns”, her favorite soap opera. After retirement they were able to travel overseas and visit their daughter and her family and spend more time at their cabin in upstate New York where her husband was from.
For the past 3 years she has been a resident at Legacy Living, a memory care facility in Arlington. The family would like to thank the staff for the loving care and dedication they have shown to Corinne and to her family.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 24th at Moore Memorial Gardens, located at 1219 N. Davis Dr. in Arlington, TX 76012, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 10 am at Moore Memorial Gardens located at 1219 N. Davis Dr. in Arlington, TX 76012 with a burial to follow in Moore Memorial Gardens. Pastor Kim Long, from Alvarado, will officiate the ceremony.
