David Frank Backer

August 11, 1955January 4, 2020

David Frank Backer, 64, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Born the fourth of five children to Albert & Virginia Backer on August 11, 1955, in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He attended St. Cloud Technical High School, where he was an honor graduate. In 1975, he moved to Arlington to start his career as a Masonry Contractor and met the love of his life, Kathrine Ward. They married May 12, 1979 at Harmony Baptist Church. They made their home in Arlington and were blessed with two children, Amy and Scott. After 20 years in masonry work, he transitioned his career to Insurance Adjusting with Pilot Catastrophe. He continued to work for Pilot for over 24 years.

Nothing made David happier than to help his family and friends. He not only knew how to fix everything, but would go out of his way to make sure it was fixed right. David loved to travel, teach and share his knowledge, spend time with his grandsons, and find a good deal.

David was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Backer, one niece, Bonita Perry and his father in law, Harold Ward.

Survivors include his wife, Kathrine; two children, Amy Hurta and husband Blake and Scott Backer; two brothers, Lawrence Backer and wife Betty and Roger Backer and wife Janet; one sister, Kathy Adams and husband John; mother in law, Rhoda Ward; sister in law, Debra Ward; brother in law, Randy Ward and wife Diana; two grandsons, Brett Hurta and Jake Hurta; four nephews, Jay Adams, Chris Backer and wife Angela, Michael Adams and wife Mary and Daniel Ward; one niece, Mollie Niacaris and husband Tim; three great-nephews, Christopher Pate, Dylan Niacaris and Lawrence Adams; and six great-nieces, Trinity Perry, Keyera Perry, Dacey Gryder, Addison Gryder, Lennon Backer and Aylin Niacaris.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in honor of David would be appreciated.

David was my cousin. I think my family and I spent a lot of summer vacations in Minnesota. I remember one time, Kathy, David, Robert, and possibly Roger and I were in their barn. We'd climb up and grab a rope and swing down and plop into the hay. That was so much fun! It was a simpler time, but boy did we laugh!
David...you are going to be missed so much. You were such a good guy. Rest in peace, cousin.

We met David through work with Pilot Cat. He was one of the good guys. David was very knowledgeable about the business and always ready to share his experiences. David always wanted to do the right thing for his customers. It was an honor and pleasure to have worked with him.
Rest In Peace old friend.

Met David in one of my classes at Tech High. We spend more time talking about cars and having some fun ,than learning anything.
We both had Plymouth Barracuda's and enjoyed the swimming quarrys by his parents house.
We had a great group of friends and had some wild times.
Dave was one of my groomsmen at my wedding and I was glad to have him as a friend.
Lost track of each other when he moved to Texas, would have enjoyed talking to him over the years.
John Adams filled my in on how Dave was doing at Robs funeral.
I will miss him
