Major General David Ray Love, USAF (Retired) 73, died April 17, 2018. He was born March 15, 1945 in Ft Worth, Texas to Joyce and George Love. He was a graduate of Arlington High School and Texas Tech University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, he worked for Borden Dairy before being commissioned into the United States Air Force through Officer Training School. He spent 32 years as a command pilot and commander at the squadron, group, wing, and center levels. A highly decorated officer, David flew 13 different types of aircraft over his career and accrued over 4,400 hours, including over 400 combat hours in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the USAF, he worked several years as Vice President of International Business Development for L-3 Communications.
David was an Eagle Scout, avid golfer, Master Scuba Diver, amateur comedian, RV/motor coach driver extraordinaire, he loved country music and watching old Westerns. He was a world traveler. However, his greatest loves were his family and flying. He built and flew his own RV-8 airplane after retirement.
David is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 40 years Darlean Love. He is survived by his wife Sharon Love; daughter Amy Cotton and husband Jeff of Gig Harbor, Washington; daughter Angela Hunsicker and husband J.D. of Benton, La.; grandchildren Rachel Cotton, David Cotton, Courtney Slater and husband Tim, Laken Hunsicker and Jackson Hunsicker; sister Pamela Newsom; several nieces, nephews, and brothers/sisters-in-law.
A visitation for David will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM, at Moore Funeral Home.
