Her casual Memorial Service will be held at Moore Funeral Home 1219 N Davis Arlington in the South Chapel at 2:00 on July 9. A time of visitation will begin at 1:00 in the same room.
Debbie moved to Arlington when she was in the sixth grade with her mother and two siblings. She immediately made many close neighborhood and school friends. She was a cheerleader and excelled in track and volleyball. At 16, her high jump track skill and technique caught the eye of the TCU track coach. Her jumping style, backwards, was what amazed the coach and all who witnessed it, as she was the first - boy or girl - who used this style (note: this was 2 years before Dick Fosbury exhibited the same in the 1968 Olympics). Debbie earned All-State Honors in volleyball at Arlington High School and was inducted into the AHS Hall of Fame.
Debbie married Danny Wood in Arlington, and they had their one and only child, daughter Kristi. She was, and is, the classic illustration of the “Apple of Our Eye!”
Debbie had an impressive business career spanning 30+ years as office manager, paralegal, and assistant at Bauder Fashion College; Baker-Brown-and Dixon; and Reeder Distributors.
Her health decline began over 20 years ago, and rendered her mostly homebound. This did not keep her from her grandson’s many activities, nor from “attending” services every Sunday online at Christ Chapel Bible Church.
She is preceded in death by first born grandson, Dustin Davis.
She is survived by Kristi Wood Davis; grandsons Clayton and Braydon; sister Brenda Gambill and husband John, brother Chuck Bettinger and wife Sally, and many nephews, nieces, and an ARMY of Kristi’s close friends.
Kristi is so grateful her mom knew Jesus as her Savior. She is also grateful for the God sent hospice nurse, “GG’s” advice late Friday night. Kristi had continually been by her mom’s side for a week, including sleeping in the room's lounge chair, and she asked, “how much longer do you think?” to which GG answered, “Perhaps she is waiting for you to go home and rest.”
Debbie passed 3 hours later.
