Ann was born on April 14, 1932 in Dallas, TX to Lindell and William D. Ward. She graduated from W.H. Adamson High School and later moved to Arlington where she made her home.
Through the years Ann enjoyed spending time at the Temco boat club with her lifelong friends, Gene and Jeanie Tullis. She also enjoyed RV-ing and fishing at South Padre Island.
Ann had fun meeting up with the YAYA Girls and the Quarter Century Club and anywhere else she could be around people. Mostly, Ann loved shopping and finding a good deal and then blessing her family and friends with her treasures.
Ann worked in the defense industry in the many-named companies of Temco, Vaught, LTV, Laurel, and Lockheed-Martin where she was the “mother” to a fantastic group of guys. She took pride in the fact they ate all her food when she took special treats to events. She then spent many hours volunteering at New Beginnings and helping anyone she could. Ann was a surrogate mom to many.
Those who knew Ann also knew they’d better not say a negative word about her Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, or UT Longhorns. She was an avid fan who could be heard by all her neighbors as she was cheering on her teams.
Ann will be remembered as a generous and caring friend. She will be missed by a myriad of friends, but perhaps none more than Etta and James Burton who looked after Ann and always made sure she was well-cared for.
Ann leaves behind sons B. David (Cynthia) Smith of Austin and W. Dean Travis of Arlington, and grandson Christopher D. Smith of Austin.
