

Don Harris was born on July 30th, 1935 to Jack and Ina Harris in the small town of Santo, Texas. Don grew up with a love for sports and the outdoors as a youth and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball at Santo High School. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a young man during vacation bible school at the Baptist Church in his hometown.
During his teenage years he developed a strong work ethic that would serve him through the rest of his life. His first job was learning Morse code working the night shift as a railroad dispatcher. After graduating high school, he entered the United States Air Force in 1954. He left with a rank of Technical Sergeant after serving for 4 years as an airplane mechanic. Through his time in the Air Force he developed a love of planes and a skill for fixing virtually anything that needed it. After an honorable discharge, he entered the working world with Burroughs Corporation and later the U.S. Post Office in Dallas, Texas. He married Margie Harris of Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 15th, 1966 and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Don is survived by his wife, Margie Harris of Bedford, Texas; son, James Harris and his wife Shelly Harris; grandsons, Matthew, Ryan and Jacob Harris of North Richland Hills, Texas; brother Weldon Harris and his wife Lometa Harris of McKinney, Texas, sisters, Helen Conway of Grand Prairie, Texas and Bueaton McKinzey of Arlington, Texas; multiple nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Harris; mother, Ina Harris; and brothers, Kendall Harris, Doyle Harris and Beverly Harris.
His funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 8th at 1 PM at Moore Funeral Home. His final resting place will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth Veterans Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Grand Prairie, Texas. A short service will take place at 11 AM before burial on Friday March 13th. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to American Heart Association or the charity or church of your choice.
