Doris was born on April 18, 1938 in Vernon, Texas, to William A. Thompson and Nevada Thompson, where she was also raised. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Kenneth H. Layton. Together, they built a family and were blessed with two daughters, Sheryl and Charrity Marie.
To her family and friends, Doris was lovingly known as “Granny,” a name that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. She was a generous and giving person who shared her time, talents, and resources with those she loved. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she never hesitated to give of herself to help those around her. Her kindness, generosity, and love will never be forgotten.
Doris was deeply loved by her family and friends, and she leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth H. Layton, who passed away in 1998; her parents, William A. and Nevada Thompson; and her brother and sister.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Sheryl (Stephen) Fischbach and Charrity Marie Grimes; three grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Benezue, Charley (Tassy) Grimes Jr., and Chad Grimes; six great-grandchildren, Hayden Grimes, Tanner Grimes, Noah Benezue, Caroline (Chris) Nickell, Courtney Grimes, and Jacob Grimes; and one great-great-grandchild, Asher Nickell.
Though our hearts are saddened by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that the love she gave so freely will live on through the generations of family she leaves behind.
We all loved her very much, and she will be missed more than words can ever express. Forever our Granny, forever in our hearts.
