Doris Nell Peters was born August 1, 1933, to Chester Gamblin and Estella Gamblin. She grew up the oldest of six children in Columbia, MS, where she graduated high school. After high school, Doris married and eventually became mother to six children.
The greatest passions in Doris’ life were her family, her faith, and the importance of an education. Doris dearly loved the family she raised and her extended family. In fact, we didn’t need Ancestry.com or 23 and Me. We had Doris. And everyone knew if there was some obscure question, about the family that couldn’t be answered…just call Doris. She had the answer.
Doris loved God and the church. She shared her faith with family, friends and anyone who needed or wanted to hear about God’s love. She loved teaching Sunday school. Doris was known for her biblical knowledge. She was a proud member of Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church and loved by all.
Doris believed in the value of an education. She particularly liked studying U.S. and world history. Fortunately for her, she was a proud mother in a military family. As a result, she was blessed to live in some of places she read about, throughout the U.S. as well as in Japan. Doris spent her career in education working for the Arlington School District until her retirement.
Doris will be remembered as a person who loved her family and helping others.
Doris is survived by her children, Pete (Regina), Yvonne, Cynthia, Danette, Ramona (Leroy), and Jimy (Xochitl), and many loving grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
