Eula Doris Gowing Studebaker was born in Willacy County, Texas in 1932 to Doyle Gowing and Edgar Jewel Smith Gowing. She was the third of 3 children. Doris graduated in 1950 from Raymondville High School. She participated in the county beauty contest and was crowned the Rio Grande Valley Miss Texaco.
Doris married the love of her life, Marvin Lee Studebaker, on September 30, 1951. They had 54 wonderful years together before his passing. They raised 6 children, a daughter and 5 sons. She was a homemaker for most of their marriage, but the last few years she was a manager and worker for fast food restaurants. Doris was a great cook and terrific seamstress; she was also a long time Baptist and taught Sunday school in her early years of marriage.
She had 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The highlight of her later life was visiting with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially liked to see the little ones. Her face would light up when holding those babies or toddlers. Doris also loved to have her children visit or call. She could not hear well but she could not wait to tell her daughter of when she got one of those calls as soon as she got home. Unfortunately, most of the conversations were one of the boys who had called and said “someone did something, but everything was fine. When questioned of who, what, or when, she would say; “I am not sure, but it must have been ok.”
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Studebaker and her son-in-law, Len Harris
Left to cherish her memory, daughter, Cathy Laine Harris; sons, Ron (Liz) Studebaker, Kenneth (Kim) Studebaker, David (Debbie) Studebaker, Michael (Christine) Studebaker, and Douglas (Terry Garner) Studebaker; grandchildren, Josh (Denise) Harris, Stephanie (Sean) Holzschuh, Nathan (Pennie) Studebaker, Kevin (Ashley) Studebaker, Rhys (Russell) Peterson, Caleb (Sara) Studebaker, Kaitlyn Studebaker, Emily Studebaker, Brian (Shanna) Studebaker, Jennifer Studebaker, Brandon Studebaker; and 22 great-grandchildren.
We thank God for the time she had with us and for the joys we shared together. Doris is gone from our presence, but she is not forgotten and will always be in our hearts.
