From her humble upbringing in the Hollingsworth family homestead near the North Central Texas town of Decatur to her home in Fort Worth, Dorothy had a lasting impact on all those whom she came in contact with. Dorothy was a steadfast and dearly loved member of her home church, Handley United Methodist Church.
Dot was blessed to be part of and surrounded by a grand family of loving people during her fruitful and fortunate life. Married to William Gilbert Smith who preceded her in God's final calling was the proud mother of sons, William Jr., Charles C. Sr. and adopted grandson, Charles C. Jr. Her family grew to her great delight to include eight grandsons whom she loved so much.
To Dot, family was the center of her life after her unfailing devotion and commitment to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dorothy's character was a shining example of true heart-felt love from her core being to all those around her. God's work was truly delivered through her. She never failed to seek and find goodness in everyone. Her life was an open book into godly love and care giving. A pure and unblemished spirit was her calling card to all who came to visit with her. Strong and ever so thoughtful she took great pride in all endeavors from church activities to family reunions to her beloved garden of beautiful flowers. Her involvement and efforts in the early days of the formation of the local chapter of The Boy Scouts of America still benefits those in Texas Scouting today.
Having lived in one of the greatest generations of all times, the legacy she leaves behind to those in the vast Smith family of North Texas is one of hope, perseverance and true Texas grit and goodwill shall never be forgotten within her family and friends.
It is fitting that Our Lord called her home in the springtime of her beloved Texas. Some of her greatest joys were working in her flower garden. A tireless worker for goodness and endless giver of love she will be so very missed by those who she shepherded in His love.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Gilbert Smith, and parents, George and Martha Hollingsworth.
Survivors: She is survived by sons, Charles Carl Smith Sr. and wife, Kathryn, of Burleson, William Gilbert Smith and wife, Barbara, of Miami, Okla., and Charles Carl Smith Jr. and wife, Andrea, of Fort Worth; sister, Jessie Ray Polk; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.
