Born in Fort Worth on Aug. 24, 1925, Dorothy was the only child of Opal and Jasper Longmire. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. In 1945, she met her soulmate, John, and a year later they married. Their beautiful union spanned 45 years and was a testament of sacrificial love and commitment. Possessing a true servant's heart, Dorothy faithfully cared for her family, friends and community. A woman of faith and the heart of the Davis family, she shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example.
After John's passing, she was blessed to marry a longtime family friend and doting husband, Maurice Steele, in 1996. They lived for 10 years in Mineola, enjoying family, friends and fishing. Throughout her life, Dorothy loved to write, read, knit, play bridge, listen to music and cheer for the Texas Rangers.
Dorothy had a heart for education. In 1971, she went back to school and received a master's in education from Sul Ross State University. She taught at the high school and collegiate level for over 30 years and received numerous recognitions for her dedication to education. She was brilliant, driven, and beloved by her students.
