

Dossie Ellen Darr 98, passed away on May 15, 2019. A lifetime resident of Arlington, Ellen was born on November 22, 1920 to Gustavus Henry Sieber and Dossie Ellen Bratcher Sieber. One of 10 children and the last of her family; who were among the first setters, in what is now known as Arlington, TX.. Her parents initial homestead resided at what is now known as Veteran’s Park. The first of the land sold, was 50-acres; to build Dalworthington Gardens. She had vivid memories of the day this land was sold to Eleanor and Theodore Roosevelt; and waving goodbye to them as they left town on the train. Her step-father, was one of the original founders/partners of Handley Bank; which is now known as Bank of America.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1939 and went on to be the first of her family, to attend college and receive her degree from St. Josephs School of Nursing in 1956. In 1942, Ellen married her forever love, Walter Levi “Smokey/Punk” Darr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Levi Darr on March 19, 1992; 3 sons, Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Darr on September 15, 2012, Phillip Lynn Darr on August 10, 2015 and Walter Levi “Lee” Darr, Jr., on January 12, 1979.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Janie Teresa Hammonds; 10 grandchildren, Sherise “The Princess” Hilbun, Shawn "Gabe" Hammonds, Tracy “Miss Cate” Hammonds, Angel Bryant, Kendel Hammonds, Nicole D. Dykes, Natalie D. Kiebes, Noell D. Eckstein and Josh L. Darr; 10 great-grandchildren, other family and a host of friends.
Ellen was known for her big, generous and loving heart. Touching those that were fortunate to know her; from family, friends and patients, to mere strangers in passing. She was an avid cook, recipe collector, gardener and china painting artist. With fishing and watching Rangers baseball, her two favorite hobbies. Those that knew her best, knew her as “Mommom”…she will never be forgotten in the hearts of those she touched.
