Doug was born in Denison, Texas on December 12, 1941, to Rosalee Farry Bowser and Leonard D. Bowser, Sr.
Doug spent his youth living in Texas and was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Doug eventually returned to Texas to earn his Bachelor’s degree at Texas Christian University, where he met Judy A. Johnston. Doug and Judy were married on August 12, 1965, and moved from Fort Worth to Houston to start their family. While in Houston, Doug and Judy welcomed their daughter, Traci. After several years, they sold the Houston house and relocated to Moline, Illinois in 1976. In Moline, their family expanded to welcome Todd.
Doug was a salesman with many varied experiences, from early years as a shoe salesperson to working for Chrysler, Toyota, Exide Battery, Cessna Fluid Power and Avis. He also ran his own auto parts store for several years in Moline, Illinois.
Doug was a keen poker player and a lover of all things automotive, from tinkering with cars to taking long drives across the country. After Judy’s retirement, Doug and Judy would take road trips together with friends. They also loved visiting family and hitting the local casinos along the way. Doug loved big family gatherings centered around a great meal and lively conversation.
In 2020, Doug and Judy returned to Texas to be near their daughter and granddaughters. They continued to make new friends wherever they went. Doug loved to be on the move, frequently attending movies, music or theater shows with Judy and his family. Doug enjoyed family game nights, and reading the newspaper.
Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Johnston Bowser, his daughter Traci [husband Michael] and son Todd [wife Elizabeth], as well as his granddaughters Christina and Katherine Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Sr. and Rosalee, his sister Martha, and his brother George.
