Ed Rusk, while surrounded by family and friends, flew home to the arms of his Savior on August 26, 2012 after a courageous twelve year battle with cancer.
He was born to Hiram Rusk and Priscilla Ray Rusk in Breckenridge Texas.
Ed, a lifelong cowboy with his ever present cowboy hat, boots, and jeans started riding bulls in rodeos when he was thirteen. Surviving that, he joined the Navy during World War II at the age of seventeen and served honorably on the USS Massachusetts. Later Ed served in the Marines
Ed was an eternal optimist and embraced life to its fullest each day. He never met a stranger and left everyone he came into contact with feeling that they were a special person.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Carl Rusk and Lynn Rusk, two nephews John Rusk and Baylor Lynn Rusk, son-in-law Britt Hammack, and Jane Townsend Rusk.
Ed is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Linda Baugher Rusk; children Steven (Jennifer Rusk), daughter Jenifer Hammack, and their mother Marilyn Rusk; grandchildren Ashley and Taylor Hammack and Charlie and Payton Rusk. He is also survived by his “adopted son” Dewey Marino, sister-in-law Patricia Baugher Quick (Milton), brothers-in-law Christian Baugher (Darleen) and Butch Ardis (Mary Jo); cousin Billy Ray Campbell (Patti); niece Allison Ardis Araya (Klever); nephews David Ardis (Sabrina), Christopher Baugher, Nathanael Baugher (Lindsey), and Joshua Baugher (Erin); great nephew Brandon Araya; great nieces Rhiley Baugher, Camryn Baugher, and Madison Araya; and a host of friends; all who loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.
Ed enjoyed a long and successful business career. He worked the oil business in construction as well as creating his own private oil company. Ed spent many years working in the aerospace industry, primarily for General Dynamics. In 1984, he and his son, Steve, founded Precision Alloy Sales that specializes in representing forging and casting companies in aerospace and commercial applications. Ed retired from his many business endeavors in 1998. In 2004, he and Linda moved permanently to Horseshoe Bay Texas where Ed enjoyed playing golf, following college football, and delighting his many friends with his stories and antics.
Ed was a lifelong football fan. He played football for Arlington High School and college football at North Texas Agriculture College. He had a special love for his Texas Longhorns football team.
Ed was a member of the Church of Horseshoe Bay. When not serving in his role as the official laminator of Horseshoe Bay, he was the resident golf pro of FOGG (Fred Owen’s Golf Group).
Family visitation services will be at Moore Memorial Gardens 1219 N. Davis Drive, Arlington Texas from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on August 30, 2012. Funeral services, officiated by Dr. Peter Christy, will begin at 3:00PM on August 31, 2012 at Moore Memorial Gardens followed by internment with military honors at 4:00PM, also at the Moore Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ed’s memory to your favorite charity.
