Elizabeth Jane Harris Brost was born into this world on November 12, 1949 to Robert Hall Harris and Nancy Haynes Harris in Traverse City, Michigan. On March 30, 2022 she went to be with Jesus while surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her home.
Elizabeth (Libby), was the youngest of 3 children. She has a sister Cindy and a brother Philip (deceased). She grew up in Traverse City, Michigan where she embraced all the area had to offer which included great lakes, beaches, boating, and winter sports. Libby graduated from Traverse City Central High School where she participated in musicals, varsity cheerleading and was voted Homecoming Queen. After graduation, she attended Northwood Institute in Midland, Michigan to pursue her interest in Business and Merchandising. With those skills, plus her passion for fashion, she easily landed a great job at a family owned department store in Grand Rapids, Mi.
She enjoyed her career and had many accomplishments. She grew close to new friends, especially a young man named Jim who she married in September of 1973. Together they were blessed by the birth of their son, James, born April 26, 1976. Soon after the birth of their son, Jim passed away. Her family and friends rallied around her and James and her strength was renewed daily as she walked with the Lord.
Quite suddenly and unexpectedly the Lord gave Libby the gift of another man named Hal Brost to love, cherish and be a father for James. They married in September of 1978 and immediately moved to Korea for Hal’s assignment in the Air Force. When they returned to the United States, Hal retired from the Air Force and they settled in Ohio from the late 70’s through the 80’s. Their second son, Matthew was born on July 2, 1980 in Ohio. The four of them began their life in Texas in 1989. Libby was a proud, happy mom of her boys. They attended school, played sports, enjoyed their friends and church.
Libby loved the Lord supremely and desired to constantly grow in her relationship with Jesus. First Methodist Mansfield became their place of worship and service. They participated in bible studies, home group, choir and the Sunday gathering. Libby was nourished spiritually in fellowship with multigenerational women. She truly scattered joy.
She scattered joy on the tennis court, one of her favorite hobbies. She was just a bit competitive, ha! She needed the sport and the sport needed her. She loved all the relationships that came from those wonderful years. She also scattered joy in her gardening. Libby loved how happy plants were in Texas. And knew just how to keep them happy. If you came into her home and took one glimpse outside, you just felt peace. She cultivated that and did it beautifully.
The season of life where she scattered joy the most was her role as a grandmother. During these years, she truly poured into the next generation and it was so beautiful to see.
Hal and Libby moved to Highland Village, TX in August of 2020 to be closer to family. Just a few short months after they moved, Hal passed away in October. As she grieved, her heart continued to grow toward Heaven and that became so evident in the peace that she had when she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in December, 2021. She knew this was not her home.
Libby is preceded in death by her husband, Hal Brost, her parents, Robert and Nancy Harris, and her brother Phil Harris. She is survived by her sister, Cindy Hopkins, sons James and wife Jennifer Brost, and Matt and wife Jessica Brost, step-son Randy and wife Ellen Brost, and step-daughter Liz Brost; her seven grandchildren Drew Brost, Ryan Brost, Cambria Peterson, Cole Brost, Delaney Brost, Layla Brost and Izzy Brost and many other relatives and friends.
