Mrs. Wheeler was born February 18, 1922 in Lockhart, Texas. She was the youngest child of Holly & Ida Burditt. She graduated from Lockhart High School in 1940. Upon graduation, she moved to Brenham, Texas to work, at which time she met her lifelong friend, Ruby McBride. Eloise and Ruby worked together, and both moved to Arlington to work in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the early 1940s. They remained the best of friends until Ruby’s passing a few years ago. A true testament to friendship and loyalty.
While in Arlington Eloise met her future husband Jesse Wheeler. They were married on September 8, 1945. They shared many years of happy marriage until his passing in 1978. Eloise and Jesse both worked for SRO Asphalt Trucking Company, where she was a bookkeeper.
Following her husband’s passing Eloise began her “Second Act”. In 1979, at the age of 58, she attended nursing school at Arlington Memorial Hospital and became a Licensed Vocation Nurse. She worked at Arlington Memorial Hospital until her retirement.
Eloise treasured her family and friends. She had a kind and gentle heart and was loved by all that met her. Throughout her years she enjoyed adventure and traveling. Her family has many fond memories of their time with their beloved “Weecie” and “Butch”. She was a Dallas Cowboys fan, however never got over the firing of Tom Landry, and was a loyal fan of her beloved Texas Rangers.
Eloise is proceeded in death by her husband Jesse; her parents Holly & Ida Burditt; her brothers and sisters Alan Burditt, Ruby Parrish, Emma Hicks and Dale Burditt; and her lifelong friend Ruby McBride.
Eloise is survived by her step-daughter Janice Shiftner, and husband Brett; niece Carol Smith, and husband Steve; nephew Grady Kubenka, and wife Lori; granddaughter Cari Hooper and husband Dave; grandson Michael Burch, and wife Angie; and beloved nieces and nephews Matthew Smith, Emily Smith, Garrett Kubenka and Rachel Kubenka.
Due to current social distancing limitations, Mrs. Wheeler will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony. Those that wish to honor her memory may do so by making donations in her name to Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County, or Community Hospice of Texas in Burleson. Both organizations thoughtfully cared for our precious Eloise.
