Emmett Gene (Bud) Wilson, born September 30, 1928, passed into the arms of the Lord on March 28, 2023, in Fort Worth, Texas. He and his wife of 72 years, Bessie, lived nearby in Arlington for most of their adult lives.
After serving our country in the Air Force, Bud graduated from West Virginia University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering degree and took employment with Chance Vought (now Lockheed Martin), where he worked for 36 years.
He was a longtime member and former Deacon of Benevolence at Woodland West Church of Christ and worked tirelessly at Hearts and Hands ministry to serve those in need. A life member of the National Rifle Association and the Arlington Sportsman Club, Bud was chosen Sportsman of the Year for the latter in 1996, having served the club as a board member for many years. He was also an avid collector of handmade folding knives by Texas artisans and instilled that keen interest in one of his granddaughters.
With a quick smile and an infectious laugh, Bud brought much joy into many lives. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie; sons, Chuck and wife Debra, Lyle and wife Janis, and Jeff; granddaughters, Korie, Casey, and Olivia; grandsons Tristan, Travis, and Ian; great-granddaughter Ella, and great-grandson Sawyer.
In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations be made in Bud’s name to St Jude’s children’s Hospital.
A visitation for Emmett will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Woodland West Church of Christ, 3101 W Park Row Dr, Arlington, TX 76013.
