Evangeline “Leni” Coyle (nee Stamation) passed from this earth on July 5, 2026 at the age of 83. Leni was born in Massachusetts in 1943 to parents George and Mitzi Stamation. George, a U.S. Army Corpsman, was killed in action during World War II in 1945. Leni was raised by her mother, Mitzi, with the help of her grandparents, her uncle Tony Roumas, and other members of the family in their tight-knit Greek community in and around Peabody, Massachusetts.
In 1967, Leni married David Coyle, and the marriage produced two sons: John in 1968; and James (Jim) in 1969. Around 1973, the young family moved to the Dallas, Texas area when David accepted a job with a new employer. David became a Dallas Cowboys fan, and Leni had to learn to drink iced-tea instead of iced-coffee (it’s a New England thing).
Leni spent much of her time as a teenager and young adult in the world of competitive figure skating, both as an athlete and as a coach. After her sons grew up and started families of their own, Leni became an educator. Leni spent two decades in the Arlington Independent School District, working with profoundly handicapped and special-needs children. Leni was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring Yaya to her four grandchildren. Leni brought a servant’s heart in her approach to life, and as anyone who ever met Leni all knew, you weren’t allowed to not eat a snack or a meal when you set foot in Leni’s house (it’s a Greek thing).
Leni is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years of marriage, David, sons John and James (Jim), their wives Amanda and Tamara, and grandchildren Katherine, Laura, Philip, and Caroline. And countless friends, neighbors, and others whose lives were brightened by having known her. A funeral mass at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 5819 W. Pleasant Ridge Road, Arlington, Texas 76016 is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on August 22, 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at svdpcc.org/donate.
