Gary William Evans was born October 16, 1936 in Long Beach, CA. He graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958. He worked for Braniff Airways in Dallas, TX from 1959-1989 as a Reservationist, Pilot Scheduler-Pac-Mac, Operation Manager-Philippines and Japan, Flight Attendant Manager and Flight Dispatcher. Gary joined American Airlines as a Flight Dispatcher in 1989 and retired in 2003.
Gary married Dottie on New Year’s Day in 1982. They traveled extensively, cruising to Alaska, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean, as well as trips to Hawaii.
Gary was an avid sports fan, especially the Cowboys and the Rangers. Gary loved to play golf, with three hole-in-ones on his resume. He shot his age at 77 and shot a 79 just a couple of weeks before he turned 79 last October. He played twice a week with the Grumpy Old Men group and loved the game and the fellowship. He also had some tales of playing golf in the Philippines and Thailand.
Gary enjoyed life, his dog Pepper and lunch at Chuy’s every Sunday. He approached everyday as a chance to enjoy friends and family. He loved everyone and wanted to see them happy. We will all miss Gary Evans.
Gary was preceded in death by parents, John S. Evans and Mary E. Evans, sister Barbara Armstrong, brother Dean Evans.
Gary is survived by wife Dorothy Mae Evans, brother Lindy Evans, sister Lana Saunders, daughters, Kim Dunaway (Bob Jordan) and Brenda Frye (Bill Frye), grandchildren David, Chris and Michelle Dunaway and six great grandchildren.
