He was born at the family home in McCurtain County, Oklahoma outside the town of Idabel on October 23, 1942.
After living in Idabel and Wichita, Kansas dad’s parents settled in Grand Prairie where he graduated from Grand Prairie High School. Following high school, Dad served in the United States Air Force where he was an Electronics Technician. After his service, Dad lived in Houston for a time but settled back in Arlington, Texas. There he worked his entire career in the local defense industry. Dad worked in contracts for just about every major local defense company: Vought, LTV, Bell Helicopter, General Dynamics and Lockheed. During this time, Gerry was married to Jenney McKee with whom he had two sons. He adored his boys and was always supportive in all their endeavors.
Papa G was a true Renaissance Man. His hobby was cooking and he was known far and wide for his homemade pizza. He was a reader, writer, thinker, an inventor and a tinkerer. He had a self-built home computer before PC’s existed. In the Seventies, we had solar power and he worked on building and integrating a central control for lighting, heating/cooling and other home functions. He loved cars, something he shared with his boys. He had a Corvette, several MGs, a big block Ford Ranchero, a Toyota Supra, Mercedes 450SL and a Jaguar. He always loved a race, and let his boys goad him into racing a coal train across the middle of nowhere New Mexico.
He was a devoted son, big brother, uncle, father and grandfather. Always supportive.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tommie Stamps and Mildred Stamps Bowen. He is survived by his sister Paula Clelland, her husband Gordon; Nephew Kyle Clelland and his wife Carlson; Niece Carrie Clelland Fudge and her husband Dennis all of South Carolina; his two sons Jeff Stamps, wife Anissa and Jason Stamps, wife Kimberly, all of Fort Worth; and his three loving grandchildren Nathaniel, Harrison and Vivian Stamps children of Jeff and Anissa and from Fort Worth.
Dad never liked a fuss made over him. He will be cremated at Moore and Sons Funeral Home with services to be at a later date.
