Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 122 N.E. 2nd Street, Grand Prairie, with Dr. Bill Skaar officiating. Assisting will be Dr. Jerry Poteet and Jim Goddard. Interment with military honors will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis Drive, in Arlington.
He was born Gilbert O’Neill Jones on May 13, 1920 in Grand Prairie, a son of William Jennings Jones and Teresa Mae Price Jones. Gilbert was a combat veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle near Berlin, Germany. After the war, he became a successful concrete contractor until he retired. He married Amy Smith and together raised four children. Gilbert had a passion for calf roping, horses and dogs. Gilbert was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Amy Darlene Love; one grandson, Jeffrey Wade Jones; and one sister, Billie Doris Thomas. He leaves behind an amazing legacy for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, in which they were all his greatest love and joy.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Amy Jones; three sons, Travis (Nubbin) Jones and his wife Shirley of Grand Prairie, Texas, Larry Jones and his wife Barbara Dell of Irving, Texas, and Jerry R. Jones and his wife Barbara Kay of Arlington, Texas; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
