Goldie (Libby) Elizabeth (Stephens) Johnson, 91, of Arlington, TX died peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2016. She was born to Chester C. and Jennie Jewel (Keener) Stephens in Montgomery, Alabama where she lived until March 1944, when she met and married her late husband Everett E. Johnson, Sr. He was at Maxwell Field for B-24 training. They shared 39 years of marriage. Libby moved to Arlington in 1954 and has resided here since becoming a “True Texan.” She was devoted to her family, friends and to her church, Aldersgate United Methodist in Arlington, of which she was a founding member. Her devotion to her church included singing in the choir, being active in the UM Women’s Society and most of all, teaching her weekly Sunday School Class, The Love Watchers. The Love Watchers was specifically for special education, developmentally challenged children of all ages to adult, whom she loved dearly.
Aside from her church activities, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and traveling. On a trip to Scotland she met Queen Elizabeth. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and notably, her grandsons who enjoyed talking football with her, as she was an avid and knowledgeable Alabama Crimson Tide and Dallas Cowboy fan.
The family expresses gratitude to the dedicated staff at Town Hall Estates of Arlington, for their compassionate and loving care of “Miss Goldie” for the past five years.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
