Greta Faye Beckler, fondly known as Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Greta, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Midtowne Assisted Living in Midlothian, Texas, surrounded by the love and memories of the family and friends who cherished her deeply. She was 92 years old.
Greta was born on Monday, February 12, 1934, in Bellvue,Texas, to Wilbur Jasper Berry and Emmadean Yowell Berry. Named after the glamourous actress Greta Garbo by her mother. Greta carried both grace and quiet strength throughout her life. She spent her early childhood in Bowie, Texas, before her family moved to Grand Prairie, where they built a happy life together in their home on Hill Street. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School, where she was a talented majorette and won several pageants, reflecting the poise and beauty she carried naturally.
On June 7, 1952, Greta married the love of her life, Oakley Kimball Beckler. They welcomed two sons, Bryan in 1953 and Bradley in 1955, who remained among her greatest joys and proudest accomplishments.
Greta's work ethic and sense of responsibility were admired by all who knew her. Over the years, she worked at Vought Aircraft (LVT) in Grand Prairie, assisted her mother Emma Dean in real estate, partnered alongside Kim custom residential construction during the 1970s and 1980s, and eventually retired from the Tarantula Trains. No matter the role, Greta approached life with diligence, organization, and integrity.
A devoted Christian, and faithful member of the Methodist Church, Greta quietly served others throughout her life. She volunteered as a candy striper at the hospital, faithfully served as an usher during church services, became a Master Gardener, and through this generously gave her time to the Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth. Her love for gardening was more than a hobby, it was an extension of her gentle and nurturing spirit. She had a green thumb and had a way of making things bloom beautifully.
Greta was known for her steady presence, quiet wisdom, and unwavering kindness. She never raised her voice, choosing instead to lead with patience, thoughtfulness, and grace. She was careful in every decision she made, often humorously taking twice as long to make a purchase because she had thoroughly researched every Consumer Reports article and weighed every possibility. Family members lovingly smiled at the contrast between Greta's calm, reserved nature and the lively energy of her sons.
She loved traveling with her dear friend Susan Horton and with her grandchildren, treasured fashion, enjoyed cheering for the Texas Rangers, and never missed an opportunity to watch WWE wrestling. At Midtowne Assisted Living, Greta became beloved for her warmth and generosity, especially her habit of sharing her favorite cookies with fellow residents and staff alike.
Her family will forever remember her hearing her familiar sayings :"Just wait 'til your father gets home," "Told ya' so," "Love you bunches," "Anyway," and "We'll just have to wait and see." Those simple words carried the comfort, humor, and love that defined her life.
Greta was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur Jasper Berry and Emmadean Yowell Berry; her sister, Anita Martin Berry; and her brother, Ronald Berry Sr., his wife, Genelle Berry, and, Oakley Kimball Beckler.
She leaves behind her loving sons, Bryan Beckler and wife Carie Gaglio Beckler, and Bradley Beckler and wife Sheree Beckler; grandchildren Misty Beckler Dunbar, Lacy Beckler, Tommy Beckler, and Audrey Beckler Harrison; great-grandchildren Madison Dunbar, Gracie Warren, and Nova Beckler; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and steadfast faith.
Greta's life was a beautiful example of quiet strength, devotion to family, enduring faith, and simple kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to bloom for generations to come.
