Gwendolyn “Joyce” Fry, also known as Grammie, Mom and Rosie, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 28, 1928 to Herbert and Gola Bell Chapman.
Joyce married her high school sweetheart, James Morgan Fry, on June 29, 1951. Their lives were intertwined for 65 years; whether they were traveling the world with the Moslah Divan or with their children to Colorado or New Mexico, they were always together.
Joyce graduated from Poly High School and attended UTA before marrying James and raising their 3 children, Jan, Ross and Jay. She was not only a wonderful mother and wife, but a great friend and a role model to many friends and family.
Joyce was a “master” bridge player and loved her many social activities. She was a founding and very active member in the Fort Worth Women’s Club Aquarius ’70 group. She loved people and her smile was so very infectious. She lived life well, and always found the positive in every situation. She was one of the sweetest and most sincere women in the world (according to her son, Jay).
Joyce was very committed to her faith. During the last few weeks of life, she was often found reciting the 23rd Psalm to her family and the Chaplain. It gave her great peace.
Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter, Jan Childress; her husband of 65 years, James Fry; her son, Ross; and daughter-in-law, Robbie Fry.
Joyce is survived by her son Jay Fry and wife, Nancy; grandchildren, Andrew, Austin, Rachel, Leah, Richard, Justin and David; great-grandchildren, Bailee, Colton, Jackson and Evelyn; and son-in-law, Garry Childress.
There will be a private graveside service with family and friends. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
