Harold was born near Kingston, Okla., on Oct. 23, 1928. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in Arkansas. At age 17, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and was stationed for two out of his three years with the U.S. Occupation 5th Air Force at Itazuke AFB in Fukuoka, Japan. Once honorably discharged, he joined the Air Force Reserve where he retired in 1988 with over 30-plus years of service as master sergeant at Carswell AFB. His last assignment was with the 301st Fighter Squadron where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding service with the munitions section of the maintenance squadron. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion and became a lifetime member.
Harold began his civilian career at Convair in Fort Worth (known later as General Dynamics and now Lockheed Martin) as a senior contract administrator, retiring in 1991 after 40-plus years of service. He was a 60-year member of the Arlington Masonic Lodge 438. He was a charter member and an endowed member of the Fort Worth Scottish Rite. Harold married his wife, Billie, and they lived in Arlington; they have celebrated over 60 years of marriage. In 1955, they were charter members establishing Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Arlington.
Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather "Pops," and great-grandfather. He was an avid sports fan and active into his 70s, skiing alongside his grandkids. He loved to travel, fish, skate, water ski, snow ski, shoot baskets, bowl, golf, and volunteered with Boy Scouts, baseball coaching - whatever he was asked, he was up for. He proudly attended countless sporting events, recitals, band, choir and drama presentations, always with his smile.
A special thank-you to Fort Worth Community Hospice for their loving care and support.
