Helen Conroy Shumate

Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at North Davis Church of Christ where she was a member. Interment at Moore Memorial Gardens.

Helen was born in Cleburne, Texas, on October 30, 1924, to Michael and Frances Conroy. She and her brother, Jack, were raised by their stepmother, Mary Comer Conroy. She attended Cleburne High School and attended Centenary College, Shreveport, La. Helen and her husband, Clif Shumate, lived in cities throughout Texas, La., AR., CO., KS., moving to Arlington in 1967. She was the secretary to the assistant principal of Sam Houston High School in Arlington for many years.

Survivors: Beloved husband, Clif Shumate; son Michael and Cindy Shumate of Amarillo, Texas; Gene and Carie Shumate of Midland, Texas; daughter Addeane Caelleigh and husband Wm. J. Olson, of Chevy Chase, Maryland; grandchildren Michael Shumate of Midland, Brad Shumate of Austin, Carrie Shumate of Amarillo, and Talia Mills and Micah Mills of Midland. Extended family include brothers-in-law Dean and Margaret Shumate, Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Doyce and Mary Ann Shumate, Searcy, Arkansas; Dianne Hefley of Amarillo, Texas; Frances Conroy Patterson of Cape Coral, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
