Helen Louis Skidmore went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 21, 2021. Her spirit is carried on by her surviving sibling, her loving and faithful sister and brother-in-law, Frances Carol and Jack Alfred Eastwood of Arlington, Texas, her sister-in-Law Doris Benson, and many adoring nieces, nephews, friends, and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from ‘Lou’ during her 75 years. Among them: Never throw away a butter carton, a rubber band, or a foam cup or straw. There are so many uses for these items! Read your Bible, spend time in prayer, and sing to the Lord. Give your time and attention to those you love. Visit the elderly and invest yourself in children. Play red light, green light at the traffic lights to make the time pass quicker. Make others feel special by celebrating them; signs in yards for birthdays, balloons, cookie bouquet’s, chocolate bunnies at Easter, and metal tins of Christmas fudge in perfectly cut 1-inch squares. If you want something, work for it. Give of your time and energy to others; so much laughter and love over shared meals, sending cards, clipped coupon envelopes to those she loved, care packages of the Sunday Comics and food to college students. In her lifetime, Lou left an imprint of love on the hearts of others by taking the time and effort to know and share the lives of those around her. Those who’ve taken her lessons to heart will continue to ensure that there’s always a cold water, iced tea, or Dr. Pepper for those that need a cold drink on a hot day, every baby will be held and kissed, every nursing home resident will be visited, everyone will enjoy a bowl of Red Jell-O, or an Oreo shake. You may read this and recall a special memory of how Lou touched your heart, tickled your funny bone, or maybe made you say ‘huh?” Those who knew Lou will remember.
