Obituary
Hop Van Nguyen, 77, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 surrounded by his wife and children at Mansfield Methodist Medical Center. He was a great father and a great husband.
Born in Ninh Binh, Vietnam, Hop was the son of the late Le Mong Nguyen (father) and Nhan Thi Nguyen (mother). In 1975, he immigrated to the United States with only the clothes on his back and settled in Des Moines, Iowa. He lived there for over 35 years where he raised his family before moving to Arlington, Texas in 2014. Hop believed education was important and in less than four years after arriving to the states, he earned his associate degree in Computer Programming and Business Administration while working full-time. He believed in hard work to provide for his family so they could live the American dream. He lived his life with love, care, and support for his family….they were his entire world.
Hop met his wife, Vien Thi Vu, at a refugee camp in Hong Kong when fleeing the Vietnam War. They were eventually sponsored by Iowan families from First Federated Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Their journey together began when they married in 1978. Prior to his passing, Hop and Vien were able to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on May 27. They were best friends and experienced all the joys of life together. They loved going dancing, taking cruise vacations, and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Vien was the love of his life.
Hop also had four sons: John, Chris, Allan, and Brian who all currently reside in Texas as well. Hop’s sons were his pride and joy. His accomplishments in life were measured on ensuring his sons had a good education, good jobs, and opportunities to be successful. He instilled the values of family, loyalty, and a strong work ethic into his sons, and has supported them throughout life’s many milestones. He spent his life being a loving father, mentor, and the ROCK of his family.
The family misses Hop and he will forever be in their hearts. They will remember him and celebrate the honorable life he has lived.
