

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of JW Kuether, who left this world on September 6, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on March 19, 1936, JW lived a life rich with love, dedication, and service that spanned nearly nine decades.
On June 15, 1973, JW married the love of his life, Nellie Ruth Kuether. Their 52 years of marriage were a testament to the enduring power of love, partnership, and true companionship. Together, they embraced life’s adventures, remaining a beloved couple in the hearts of many.
JW began his journey as a young man at Consolidated Aircraft Corporation in Fort Worth, where he started his career. Shortly after, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 22, 1954. As an Airman Second Class, JW proudly served his country during the Vietnam war, a challenging time in our nation’s history. He served with distinction, during his deployment in England he served as a firefighter. His commitment to excellence was recognized with numerous accolades, including the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon, the Air Force Longevity Service Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Following his honorable discharge, JW pursued a successful career in sheet metal, dedicating himself to his craft as a proud union member. JW proudly served as a lifelong member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #68. Joining on July 1, 1970, he devoted 55 years and 2 months to the trade, embodying the spirit of commitment and community.
JW's passion for community shone brightly as he and Nellie became avid square dancers. For 45 years, they actively participated in various clubs, contributing their time and talents and forging lasting friendships along the way. Some of their cherished affiliations included Buttons & Bows, the Nor Tex Association, Fort Worth Squares, and Tri-City Square Dance Clubs.
Upon retirement, he found joy in a side job as a school crossing guard—a role perfectly suited for this gentle soul. His warmth and kindness made him a beloved figure among the children and families he served for 16 years, earning him the affectionate title of “gentle grandpa.” Also receiving recognition earning the City Employee Award.
A passionate woodworker, JW transformed his hobby into a joyous pursuit, crafting delightful toys that became treasured heirlooms for his grandchildren and crossing guard kids alike. Each creation, imbued with love, brought smiles and a sense of wonder to all who received them.
JW was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nellie; his father, Richard Frank Kuether; his mother, Rhodie Lee Williams Kuether; his brother Richard Frank Kuether Jr.; his sister Patsy Lee Kuether Smith; and his daughter and infant child, Connie and Chris Stanford, and niece Janis.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever: His daughter, Cathie Podbreger of Waxahachie, daughter Beth Thomas (Mike) of Diana, step-son Will West (Debbie) of Longview, Sister – Mary Sue Paddock of San Angelo and son-in-law Paul Stanford
Grandchildren Jessica Martin (Zack), Joshua West, Holly Davenport (Brian), Sherree Woolsey (Dusty), John Thomas (Kristen), and Terry Bennett, Eric Podbreger, Jamie Podbreger, and Joey Stanford.
He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Caroline, Kason, Kaleb, Emilee, Jaxson, Preston, Lennon, Lane, Landon, Connor, Hannah, Audy, Macy, and Junior
Nephew Craig Kuether, Angie Glidewell, Kenton & Holly Smith, Sheri Keeler, special great nieces Katie Kuether, Jennifer Crowder, Heather Ruiz, as well as his loyal canine companion, Loki.
JW Kuether's legacy will continue to shine through the love he fostered within his family and the community he dedicated himself to. His gentle spirit, unwavering kindness, and infectious joy will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
