It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James Malcolm “Bo” Brown, age 78, on July 11, 2025. Bo passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones who shared both laughter and tears as they told legendary “Bo Brown” stories — tales that perfectly captured his wit, grit, and charm.
Bo fought a courageous battle against multiple illnesses in recent years, never once expressing self-pity or defeat. As his son-in-law said so aptly, “Bo had an indomitable spirit that was always going to outlive his body.”
Born May 15, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama, Bo was the son of the late James M (Buddy) Brown and Erin (Rusty) Rayfield. He grew up in a close-knit family of four, supported by a loving extended family that filled his life with warmth and lasting memories. Handsome, charismatic, and athletic, Bo often recalled his record-setting run from the line of scrimmage during his days as a fullback for the Arlington High School football team in 1964 — a record that stood for decades. He proudly called himself “a man of the ’60s” and carried that resilient spirit throughout his life.
Bo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas in 1969 and earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University in 1973. He began practicing law in Fort Worth at the firm of Bishop, Payne & Larrimore, where he eventually became a named partner. After a successful career in law, Bo followed his entrepreneurial instincts into the oil and gas industry before returning to his legal roots — this time with a focus on immigration law. He founded JBB Law Firm in Bedford, Texas, where he dedicated himself to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of the immigration system. Bo loved his work and the people he served and had not yet fully retired.
Above all else, Bo loved life and the people in it. He treasured time with family and friends and fought hard to stay with them. We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with loved ones who passed before him and embarking on his next great adventure — likely already telling a story or making someone laugh.
Bo is survived by his wife, Dianna Hays; his beloved children, Byron Brown, Rachel Brown, Brody Brown, and Skipper (Jaymeson) Ubinger; his cherished grandchildren, Wish Lorimer, Lane Lorimer, Francesca Brown, and Sailor Ubinger; and his sister, Erin “Tooney” (John) McDonald. He was preceded in death by his sweet daughter, Raegan Brown Lorimer.
There will be a Ceremony of Life on Saturday, September 13, from 12:00pm - 3:00 pm at La Puertita at Joe T. Garcias, 2201 Commerce Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76164.
