James (Jim) M McMillen, 94, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born August 26, 1924 in Fort Worth to James A. and Madge Martin McMillen. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1941 and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He later went on to receive his BS degree from Texas Christian University in 1948 and then his MA degree from Colorado State College in 1949.
Jim taught math at College High School in Greeley, Colorado in 1949 and then math and science in Fort Worth public schools from 1949 to 1955. He also was an instructor of astronomy at Texas Christian University Evening College from 1950 to 1968.
In 1955, Jim chose a different career path and started working for Mobil Research as a research physicist. During his time with Mobil, he worked on fluid mechanics, scientific instrumentation, computer control of experiments, oil recovery and received about 20 patents.
In his spare time, he enjoyed studying astronomy, photography, bicycling, and doing genealogical research. He was a member of Arlington Genealogical Society and a volunteer in the Genealogy Unit at the Fort Worth Public Library and the Arlington Public Library. He wrote and had printed numerous genealogical books on his own family.
Jim was always in pursuit of knowledge and learning about new hobbies, including woodworking, white water canoeing, model railroading, and bicycling. He also took and printed thousands of black and white photographs.
Jim lived the last five years of his life at Christus St. Joseph Village in Coppell. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Dorrace Taylor McMillen; sister, Mabel Louise McMillen Maw; and his parents.
Survivors: children, Linda Louise McMillen, Betty L. Brett and husband, Richard, and James A. McMillen and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Alan McDonald and wife, Denise, Dwayne McDonald and wife, Carie, and Heather McMillen and husband, Dan Daniels; great-grandchildren, Amber, Collin, Travis, Aaron, Reed, and Zaccary McDonald.
