James Lynn Sparks passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2025, at the age of 84, in his home. If James were to write this obituary himself, I imagine he would want you to know what survived him passing onto his next adventure and what he found important.
James Lynn Sparks is survived by the two loves of his life, his wife, Suzanne Browne McNeill, who gave him over 30 years of colors, culture, and art. His other love a 13-year-old faithful dog, named Artemis, whom he begrudgingly took over from his youngest daughter’s care while she deployed in the United States Navy.
James would also mention as a reminder to take time to look at the birds, the nature, and the natural beauty around you, even if you’re in the city. This reminder also includes people, because every person is a story with which makes this world tolerable. Once you’re done taking in the nature, write it down, or simply write to each other. We, as a society, are losing the art of writing letters to each other. James wrote to his friends and family for as long as he could, and he believed there was a sentimentality which is only found when one heart writes to another.
Lastly, his family would want you to know that James was one of the best humans you could have ever had in your life, even if it was just a moment of time. He not only listened to those he spoke to, he heard them. He took time to research your interest so he understood you better. He made sure everyone around him was supported and comfortable. All he asked in return was wisdom, which to him was the greatest blessing and gift this life had to offer.
“Bye. Don’t forget to write.”
