

Shirley Janice Adams Long Archer, 82, of Fort Worth, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at her home. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation Thursday, April 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Graveside services for will be 10:00 am, Friday, April 24, 2015 at Parkdale Cemetery, 701 S. Mary Street, Arlington, Texas. A memorial service will be hosted at 5:00 pm at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, 2700 McPherson Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76109.
Shirley was born September 11, 1932 in Quanah, Texas, the only child of Robert Lee Adams and Linnis Mays Adams. She grew up in Childress, and married Gail Long in 1953. They settled in Fort Worth in 1957. Shirley was the mother of Karen and Catherine and an exceptional homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed entertaining friends in her home. She was a Charter Member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church in North Richland Hills. She was also an active member of St. Stephen Presbyterian Church for 45 years, where she served as a Deacon, Elder, Docent, and on the Day School Board of Directors. She attended both TCU and UT. Shirley served as Pres. of Culinary Arts for Junior Woman’s Club and Aquarius for the Woman’s Club of Fort Worth. She was a member of the Women of Rotary and Colonial Country Club Women’s Tennis Group.
Shirley married George Archer on Valentine’s Day, 1985. The couple has resided in the Berkeley neighborhood for thirty years. They enjoyed traveling, fine dining, and entertaining friends and family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, George Archer of Arlington, daughters, Karen & husband, David Cowden of FW, Catherine & fiancé, Kevin Casey of Keller; granddaughters, Kristin & husband, Lyle Hahn of Odessa, Kylie Cowden; great-grandchildren Leeland and Makemie Hahn.
In iieu of flowers memorials are requested to St Stephen Presbyterian Church, 2700 McPherson Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76109.
