After a protracted battle with cancer, Jerry Lee Saller returned to his heavenly home on January 21st, 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 70. He leaves behind his son, Kevin Matthew, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Diane and granddaughters Mackenzie Reese and Presley Davis. He precedes his brother, Wayne and sisters, Lynn, Donna and Penny and their families as well as scores of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Jerry was born to John Saller and Lula (Schultz) on September 10th, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois where he attended Parkside and West Pullman Elementary, Fenger High School and Junior College in Chicago, Illinois. He received a BS from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska and went on to be a teacher and administrator of St. John Lutheran School in North Tonawanda, New York and teacher at Roosevelt Elementary and Longfellow Junior High in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and was a Title I Reading Specialist in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Jerry went on to become an insurance agent as part of Don Fortney Insurance Agency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he worked as a McDonald’s Store Manager before embarking on a 30-year executive and sales career in Louisiana and Texas with the Food Service Industry, (Keebler/Kellogg’s, Chef Francisco-Labatt Foods/H.J. Heinz, Boyd Coffee, Heidi’s Gourmet Desserts, Maple Leaf Frozen Foods/Canadian Bread); retiring in the year 2009.
Jerry remained an educator at heart whether working in the food industry or as parent-coach to Kevin and his many wonderful friends. He particularly loved baseball and spent many hours tracing his family ancestry, while digitizing 100’s of family pictures and videos.
When diagnosed with cancer in 2014, Jerry remained diligent in his battle to fight the disease and as might be attested to by his many doctors and nurses, never lost his sense of humor. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.
