Becky, Lisa, Randy, and Rusty.  It was such a blessing to care for Jim and to meet you all.  My heart was deeply touched by such sweet love!  I will never forget Jim playing with me when I would ask him his date of birth.. His reply.."December 27th"  Thinking he was confused I would ask him again...and again he would say "December 27th" ??  The next day I asked him again.. He was absolutely not confused in the slightest but again responded "December 27th" This time I said "Mr Garrett that's not your birthday"  to which he replied "that's the day I married my sweetheart Becky...that is the day I was born!"  Oh goodness I am teary eyed typing this.  May all of your sorrow of such a hard loss be eased by the many precious memories you have all made.  Becky come by and get a hug anytime!! I knew my friend Jim, all of his life, and I never met one person that did not like him.  He did a lot of good things for people and he will be missed.

Coach Garrett was a true mentor to me when I came to UTA.  He became a friend when I began my own coaching journey.  Always with a great smile and contagious gregarious laugh.

A truly great man who will be sorely missed!

When I enrolled at UTA I needed a work study job Coach Garrett hired me when the new intramural building opened up. He was a great man always smiling and helpful. I enjoyed his wisdom and leadership and he helped to make UTA what it is today.

Coach Garrett you will be missed very dearly. Thank you for all your assistance and help to get me through college to finalize my degree plan and my future life. Praying for your family.

One of Jim's old friends told me not to live next door to Jim. He said "Jim works in the yard all the time and your wife will want you to do the same". I am glad I didn't listen to him. Jim and Becky were the best neighbors we ever had and we wish we could have lived next to them longer. Jim will be missed by many and our prayers are with Becky and the family.

I will miss my sweet friend Jim Garrett.  Jim was one of the most gentle person that I have ever known.  He kept me laughing with his quick sense of humor.  Becky and family, I am so sorry for your loss.  The world has lost one of its best!
