Jo was born in Sherman, Texas on March 31, 1948, to Joe Wallace and Rosalie Johnson. She graduated from Sam Houston High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.
In Arlington, she met and married Robert N. Poppelreiter. They were married 53 years and together they lovingly raised three children, Christopher, Robert, and Sarah-Anne. For years, she worked as a successful paralegal secretary for three Arlington law firms. She was a lifelong Presbyterian.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who loved her. She will be remembered for her love of gardening as well as her love for animals. She was a member of the Tarrant County Master Gardener Association and the Master Naturalist Program. She earned the Tarrant County Master Gardener of the Year title in her first year entering the program. A woman with a big heart, she always found a way to help an animal in need. She was also known as a fantastic cook, and she could make a meal out of anything in any type of cuisine.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Larry K. Johnson; niece, Lindsey Lee Poppelreiter; and parents.
Jo is survived by her husband, Robert N. Poppelreiter; her children, Christopher D. Townend (Sunny), Robert C. Poppelreiter, and Sarah Valentine (Jason); her grand-children, Joe W. Townend, Paisley Poppelreiter, and Jackson Valentine; as well as many other family members, friends, and pets.
A committal service will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or your local SPCA Animal Rescue.
