Joan Theresa Bayer

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church with her grandson, Fr. John (Paul Bayer), presiding. Rosary: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Joan was born on May 30, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., to James and Margaret Woodward. In 1955 Joan and Richard J Bayer were married by her uncle, Rev. John Murphy. They moved to Arlington in 1962 at which time they became members of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church.

Joan was a devoted wife and mother. She also taught kindergarten at Immaculate Conception School, Grand Prairie.

Survivors: She is survived by Richard, her beloved husband of 60 years; children, Dr. Richard C Bayer and wife, Kate, Joan and husband, James Swann, Mary and husband, Nick Garefalos Jr.; grandchildren, Sara, Chris and wife Melissa, Paul, Nicole, Martin and wife Chelsea, Donald, Lexi; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, James L Woodward.
