John Sprott was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 21, 1929 to John and Katie Sprott. John graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, TX. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as an Artillery Battery Commander, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
John had a long and successful career with Ryan mortgage before transitioning to full-time management of his farm near Stephenville TX. It was at that time when he became certified in farm and ranch management from Texas Christian University. In addition to his farm, John maintained and improved his property on Possum Kingdom Lake.
John was an avid pilot and outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with friends at his cabin in Colorado. However, some of John’s favorite memories were of the times he and his brother Richard would work together at the farm and lake.
Faith and family were very important to John. He was a long-time member of St. Stephens Methodist Church serving in the Finance committee and the choir. John hosted family gatherings at his farm and lake properties including 4th of July celebrations, hay rides and fishing trips. He was always eager to help others. John took many opportunities to help both his church and extended families.
John is survived by his sisters Maryann Davidson and Pat Martin and multiple generations of nieces and nephews.
