She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 3, 1932.
After high school, she worked at Convair where she met her husband, Dale Sellers. They married July 3, 1953. She traveled with her U.S. Navy husband to various duty stations. During this time, she was involved in the Officers Wives Club and was instrumental in printing an Officers' Wives Cookbook. She taught swimming to adults and children until Dale retired in 1978. Returning to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Joy earned her Bachelor’s degree at University of Texas Arlington, and worked as Senior Buyer at Sedco Oil Company for ten years.
Joy was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to travel, play games, sew for her family, and see musicals. She lived out her faith in teaching others about Jesus. At Cross City, she was an Awana Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Drill Leader, Evangelism Explosion Trainer and Kid’s Club Director at Concord House, Hillside, and Twin Bridge Apartments. She was Camp of the Hills coordinator for ten years for Mission Mid Cities. As director of several apartment ministries, she enlisted many wonderful church friends to help with the “Hell House” and the “Easter Walks”.
