June Marie Denby Sprott, 89, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. She was born on February 23, 1936 in Jacksonville, Texas, to Will Marie Denby and Frank Hunter Denby. She grew up in Fort Worth with her younger sisters D'Anna and Merry. At McClean Junior High School she met her future sister-in-law Patricia Sprott (Martin), who eventually introduced her to her brother and June's future husband, Richard Sprott. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and was a member of Alpha Phi sorority.
June and Richard were married on September 8, 1956, and after their first daughter Sara and son John were born they moved to Lubbock, Texas where daughter Allyn was born. June finished her bachelor's degree in Elementary education at Texas Tech University and began her education career as a first-grade teacher at Arnett Elementary, later moving to Haynes Elementary as a third-grade teacher. She then obtained her Masters of Special Education at Texas Tech and she and Richard moved to Arlington in 1977, taking Allyn who was still in high school.
Working as a special education teacher in the Arlington ISD, June soon obtained her certification as an educational diagnostician and served as a diagnostician in the district, eventually becoming Coordinator of Special Services, retiring in 1994. She made many lifelong friends in the special education department, including fellow coordinators, diagnosticians and teachers in the Homebound department.
After retiring from education, June began a new venture as an antiques dealer for Aunt Pitty Pat's, which opened the door for many new friends and experiences. She was a member of the Arlington Woman's Club, the Encore Club, and Presbyterian Women. She and Richard were faithful members of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth for over 30 years. All of these provided connections to deep friendships that she treasured and which helped sustain her after Richard passed in 2008. She adored her large extended family and became their matriarch and the center of many holiday celebrations through the years. She loved music of all kinds, traveling with friends and family, reading and cooking.
June is survived by daughter, Sara DeMore and husband, John, of Arlington; son, John Hunter Sprott and wife, Catherine Nelson, of Lubbock; daughter, Allyn Toth and husband, Steven, of Arlington; grandchildren, Richard DeMore, Helen DeMore-Callejas and husband, Alfonso Callejas, Sean Toth, Michael Toth, Alyson Toth and Marc Toth; and great-granddaughters, D'Anna June Callejas and Lola Esperanza Callejas; stepbrother, Blaine Ricketts and stepsister, Lois Ingram, brothers-in-law, John Sprott and Walter Soehnge, and sisters-in-law, Patricia Martin and Maryann Davidson, as well as beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
