

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home at 1219 N. Davis Dr. in Arlington, TX. The funeral will also be held at Moore Funeral Home on Friday, September 16 at 10:00 am; burial to follow at 1:00 pm in DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas, TX.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Rifle Association or the American Cancer Society.
He was born to Arthur & Ida Gustafson in 1924 in Meriden, Connecticut. He graduated from Meriden High School, attended the Mercersburg Academy and then joined the Navy during World War II. He served from 1943 -1952 as a Fighter Pilot. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS in Aeronautical Engineering and an MS in Engineering.
He met Julia Lamm from Pittsfield, Massachusetts on a blind date and they were married for 59 years. He went to work for Chance Vought (LTV) in 1951 assigned to Missiles and Space Craft. He retired as the Deputy Director of the Anti-Satellite program, which was a successful “intercept and destruction” of an orbiting satellite. He retired from LTV in 1985. In 1988 he was recognized as a Distinguished Engineering Alumni at the University of Alabama. Roll Tide!
He was an avid sailor, hunter, skier and enjoyed racing outboard motor boats. Family time was incredibly important to him. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America where his 3 sons were awarded Eagle Scout. At 90 years old he was proud to be racing his boat at 70 miles per hour.
Gus was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2008. He is survived by his children, Gail and her husband Eric Peterson, Lars and his wife Andrea, Jon, George and his wife Julie Ann, Julie and her husband Roger Gooch; 13 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
