On March 9, 1954, LeRoy was born to Marvin and Monica Erickson in New Richmond, Wisconsin. During his childhood, his family moved to many states, including Michigan, Kansas, and Texas, due to his father’s career. He went on to attend Sam Houston High School in Arlington, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Beverly, during his senior year. The sophomore caught his eye and the rest was history. Together, they raised a family of four children.
He worked for several years at General Motors while attending school at UTA. During his college years he was a member of Alpha Rho Chi, the Architecture Fraternity. He graduated from UTA in 1982 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He worked locally for Andersen’s Greenery and O’Brien Systems. In 1989, he founded L.D. Erickson, Inc. where his work spoke for itself. He was an award winner from the Texas Association of Nurserymen. He also had many faithful clients whom he prized. He later sold his company to Jeremy Henri who became a valued friend.
When LeRoy was not found gardening or doting on his family, he could be found riding motorcycles and traveling. On those adventures around the world, he could be spotted exploring different countries and cultures on a Segway. His trips to Canada, England, and Italy, just to name a few brought him joy, but nothing could compare to his favorite place, Disney World. He was a well-known Disneyphile and shared his love of Disney with those that surrounded him. LeRoy was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington for 45 years and was involved in many activities at the church.
He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Erickson, father, Marvin Erickson, mother, Monica Erickson, and brother, Jim Erickson.
LeRoy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Beverly; his children, Michael Erickson, John Erickson, and Stephanie Wiesendanger; son-in-law Carl Wiesendanger; his grandchildren, Ashlynn and Ricky Wiesendanger; as well as many other family members and friends. LeRoy will be missed tremendously but he left behind many beautiful landscapes that will serve as reminders.
