Cancer Center in Houston after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Guatemala City, Leslie earned bachelor’s degrees in both Mechanical and
Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. He later
immigrated to the United States, where he received a Master of Arts in Spanish from the
University of Texas at Arlington.
A pioneer in online education, Leslie helped establish the first computer lab at North Lake
College and was among the first educators in Dallas to teach online college courses. He
served as a beloved professor at North Lake College for 29 years until his retirement in
2022.
Leslie was a gifted scholar with a deep love of language. He was fluent in English, Spanish,
and Portuguese, and after discovering his Jewish ancestry, he studied Hebrew for over over
25 years and made two memorable trips to Israel. He was passionate about soccer, music,
reading, playing his guitar and piano, and capturing life through endless photos and videos.
A devoted Christian, Leslie spent many years serving as an elder, preacher, music leader,
and Bible study host. His proudest moments were the births of his daughters and
becoming a Saba (grandfather, in Hebrew).
When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he said simply, “Yo fui feliz.”
Leslie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ingrid Reyes, whose strength, sacrifice, and
unwavering devotion sustained him through every stage of his illness. She cared for him
with extraordinary tenderness, ensuring he was surrounded by comfort, dignity, and love
until his final breath. Her steadfast support allowed Leslie to outlive the original 11-month
prognosis given by his cancer doctor and to face each day of his battle with courage and
grace.
He is also survived by his adoring daughters, Sarah Reyes and her partner Daniel Driensky,
and Rebekah King and her husband Andrew King; as well as his cherished grandson, Levi
King. They will carry his memory forward by living out the values he so deeply embodied.
Leslie is further survived by his siblings and their spouses—Bel and Bill Roberts, Josue
Reyes, Rubi and Martin Sweaney, and Caleb and Sherrill Reyes—who, upon hearing of his
passing, traveled from across Texas to honor him and surround him with their love one final
time.
Leslie will be remembered for his patience, compassion, integrity, and unwavering joy.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m. at
Moore Funeral Home in Arlington.
